Things to Remember

What do you cherish the most? Your cell phone or the photos in that phone? Your money or the amount of hours that you put into earning that money? Your hotel room or the memories of the time spent with the loved one in the hotel room? These questions seem so clear to be one sided but in today’s modern world they are the most difficult to be answered.

At a glance it may seem that it is very easy to make these choices but in everyday life it becomes difficult to figure out what is important. The thought of success has muddled the definition of true happiness. Are we really happy when we get a buttload of cash or are we happy when we spend that money spending time with our friends? The answer would be easy; the latter. But let us ask ourselves, do we really do this? DO we really go for friends when we are tempted by money? Do we sit by our parents just because we wanted to and miss a day at work? The answer maybe a harsh “No”.

It is good that we should be careful with money and success. It will define our lives but if that is the only purpose of life then it is not worth living. Friends and family count more than what we have in our pockets because they are priceless. This has been told again and again but let me give you a solid example. Let me give you an example from a recent event from my life. We were three friends and together we had only about 200 rupees. In those two hundred rupees we ate two full meals each in the lunch hour, played some cards, watched some movies and at the end of the day we were laughing our hearts out from all the jokes that we told each other.

The economy right now suggests that at 200 rupees decent fun is not possible. If we see the trend among the youth then that supports the argument. Even a movie costs 300 rupees at least. A cup of decent coffee is Rs.90. I should know this because my Facebook wall is filled with my juniors, seniors and peers spending that much money on their day-out fiestas. But how did I manage to have fun in a low budget? The answer is simple. It was because of the company of my friends.

This is the thing to remember, never worry about money when the thing that matters is companionship when you are with your genuine friends. I should know this because I have friends and they last for life.
